You asked me to install the newest version of OneNote. When I did that you deleted my Office suite. How do I reinstall?

    Hi, Michael Saltarelli

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thanks for your question. That message usually appears when Windows still thinks an Office install, update, or uninstall is running (or got stuck in the background), even if you do not see anything on screen.

Here are some suggestions you can try:

Do a full restart, then try the install once

Restart the PC (not just sign out), then run the Office 2013 installer again. A restart clears stuck installer sessions that can keep triggering error 0-1018.

Check the system tray for a hidden Office install and let it finish

Look at the bottom-right corner near the clock for an Office install icon. If it is there, open it and allow it to complete before starting a new install. This resolves the “another installation is in progress” lock.

End the stuck installer process (common fix when nothing is visible)

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and look for anything that resembles an Office setup or installer (for example “Office”, “Setup”, or “Windows Installer”). End that task, then retry the install. People often report the installer is running invisibly and blocking the next attempt.

Repair Office 2013 if it still shows as installed

Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, find Microsoft Office 2013, choose Change, then Repair. Repair rebuilds missing app components (Word, Excel) without needing a full reinstall.

If Word and Excel are truly gone, reinstall from your Office source

If your Office 2013 license was linked to a Microsoft account, check account.microsoft.com/services to download and reinstall (You can refer to the answer provided by Q&A assist above for detailed steps).

Hope this helps. Feel free to get back if you need further assistance.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Do you no longer see your Office apps under Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps?

What error do you get when you type this command in the Run dialog box? (To start Run, click Windows + R)

    winword /safe

Did you remove the Office suite when installing the new version of OneNote? How did you install OneNote? Was it from the Microsoft Store?

If all of your Office apps are missing from the device App lists, you can download and reinstall Office from your Microsoft account:

    1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page in your Microsoft account: https://account.microsoft.com/services
    2. Under the Products you’ve purchased section, you should see your Office license listed.
    3. Click Install to download the Office setup files, then run the installer to reinstall Office on your device.

Let me know if you still need more help.
