New caption label resetting on closure of doc

I have been having trouble for about a month with all word docs. Appendices have been created as new caption labels to be cross referenced. For other employees these captions appear in the cross reference drop down box whenever they go in to edit the doc. For me, they disappear on each closure and I have to recreate them (apart from standard 'Headings, Figures, tables etc)

Please help

Caption labels are stored in the Normal template. Check the time stamp of your Normal template and see if it is being deleted or replaced regularly.

It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with custom caption labels not being retained in Word documents after closing and reopening them. This can sometimes happen due to settings or issues with the document itself. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:

    1. Check Document Settings: Ensure that your document is set to save changes properly. Sometimes, if the document is set to read-only or if there are permissions issues, changes may not be saved.
    2. Update Word: Make sure that your version of Word is up to date. Microsoft frequently releases updates that can fix bugs and improve functionality.
    3. Use a Different Template: If you are using a custom template, try switching to a standard template to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, custom templates can have settings that interfere with normal operations.
    4. Repair Office: You can try repairing your Office installation. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select Microsoft Office, and then choose the Repair option.
    5. Check for Add-ins: Sometimes, add-ins can interfere with Word's functionality. Try disabling any add-ins to see if that resolves the issue.

If none of these steps work, it may be worth reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance, as they can provide more tailored help for your specific situation.
