How to get an orphaned domain released?

I am trying to install Microsoft Office Business Premium 365 using the email address ******@rhydmor.com. My domain, rhydmor.com, is linked to another Microsoft account, RhydmorCorporation.onmicrosoft.com. This account was created last week when I unsuccessfully attempted to install Business Premium 365. I would like to know how to release this orphaned domain so I can use Office Premium 365. I also cannot sign into Microsoft using my email address, <removed PII>@rhydmor.com because it needs an MFA reset. I opened a support ticket two days ago but nothing has been done by Microsoft.

Hi Kyle, Your domain rhydmor.com is currently locked to the tenant RhydmorCorporation.onmicrosoft.com that you created earlier, so it cannot be reused until it is removed there. To release it, you must sign in as Global Admin of that tenant and delete the domain from Setup > Domains in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Since you cannot sign in due to MFA, only Microsoft Support can reset MFA or verify ownership to free the domain. Once the domain is removed, you can attach it to the correct Business Premium subscription.

This is not something you can fix locally, I would suggest you to raise a ticket to Microsoft.

To release an orphaned domain that is linked to another Microsoft account, you typically need to follow these steps:

    1. Access the Microsoft 365 Admin Center: If you have access to the account that the domain is currently associated with, sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center using that account.
    2. Remove the Domain: Navigate to the Domains section and remove the orphaned domain (in your case, rhydmor.com) from the account it is currently linked to. This action will free up the domain for use with another Microsoft account.
    3. Wait for Propagation: After removing the domain, it may take some time for the changes to propagate through Microsoft's systems.
    4. Add the Domain to Your New Account: Once the domain is released, you can attempt to add it to your new Microsoft 365 Business Premium account.

If you cannot access the original account to remove the domain, you may need to contact Microsoft Support for assistance in releasing the domain. Since you have already opened a support ticket, it would be best to follow up on that ticket for a resolution.

Regarding the MFA reset issue, you may also need to resolve that through Microsoft Support, as they can assist you with resetting your MFA settings.
