Bitlocker has locked my drive.

Only remaining option seems to be format, then reinstall windows.

I do not have a record of the windows 11 Product Key - laptop was purchased 2nd hand.

The device is linked to my MS account - can I reactivate Windows from there?

If you see a blue screen asking for a Bitlocker Recovery key when you boot up the laptop, did you check your Microsoft account on this link to try to find the associated Bitlocker Recovery Key.

If the laptop was purchased second--hand and you cannot access that device now, it is not possible to know if Windows will activate after Windows is re-installed, usually laptops have an OEM licence pre-installed by the laptop manufacturer and that is stored on the motherboard, so Windows would activate automatically any time it is re-installed.

But if that is a retail licence, the previous owner would have purchased it and that may be associated to their Microsoft account, especially if they purchased the retail licence form Microsoft.

The only thing you can do is to re-install Windows, ensure you install the same version (Home or Pro) of Windows, then when the laptop is connected to the Internet, check if Windows is automatically activated.

If your device is linked to your Microsoft account, you may be able to reactivate Windows 11 after formatting and reinstalling it. When you reinstall Windows, make sure to sign in with the same Microsoft account that was previously linked to the device. This should allow Windows to recognize your digital license and reactivate automatically.

However, if you do not have the BitLocker recovery key and cannot unlock the drive, formatting the drive will erase all data, including the BitLocker encryption. After formatting, you will need to reinstall Windows 11 and then sign in with your Microsoft account to activate it.

If you encounter issues during activation, you may need to contact Microsoft support for further assistance.
