Under W11 MS Word 365 I all of a sudden can only save files as pdf or xps. I need to save docx format

Question

I tried to open a word file from 1996 in .doc format with MS Word for Mac. It did not work, the file opening is blocked.

As a converter pack was recommended by help, I switched to Windows 11, MS Word - it could not open the file.

I uploaded the file to OneDrive, it opened, but cannot be saved. Somehow I ended on the local word in windows 11.

Now when trying to open another file in modern docx format or when I choose "new", word (Windows 11) only allows me to save files as pdf or xps.

I logged off with my account (I have a family version of MS 365 with the account PII Removed and an exchange online account with PII Removed
When trying to log in inbetween, it mixed up my one account with my other account from the company where I am working although I have never used that account on my private machine ().

I logged out, logged into office account again with PII Removed but still cannot save files other than xps and pdf. My subscription is valid until October.

For the first issue (opening a .doc file), choose File>Options>Trust Center>Trust Center Settings. Select the File Block Settings tab and uncheck all the formats you want to open and/or save.

For the second problem, do you get the same issue using File>Save and File>Save As? How about Ctrl + S?

Have you tried an Office Repair? The Online Repair option is more thorough.

I have of course checked updates, logged out of all accounts, logged in again, and followed already all recommendations. Since you made the first suggestion with 8 points disappear, I cannot repeat those points again, but the AI simply suggested me everything I already went through.
