My Microsoft onedrive account is frozen. I tried to access it to delete some files but cannot do this. I am now 83 and was out of action for some months in 2025 so did not act on your warnings that I had exceeded my limit. Can you assist please

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

When a OneDrive account goes over the storage limit, it becomes frozen, and that prevents you from managing your files. To fix this, the first step is to unfreeze your account, and Microsoft explains the process here: "What does it mean when your OneDrive account is frozen?" https://support.microsoft.com/office/what-does-it-mean-when-your-onedrive-account-is-frozen-5e76147b-b7d5-4bcb-ba28-b91e3eb636b6

After freeing space (or purchasing additional storage), it can take up to 24 to 48 hours for everything to fully update across your account. I’d recommend waiting until then.

If your OneDrive account is frozen, you will need to address the reasons for the freeze before you can delete files or photos. Here are some steps you can take:

    1. Check Your Storage Limit: If your account is frozen due to exceeding the storage limit, you will need to delete files or folders to free up space. You can check your OneDrive storage usage to see how much space you've used.
    2. Unfreeze Your Account: If your account is frozen because you haven't accessed it in 12 months, you may need to log in to your account and follow the prompts to unfreeze it. You can find more information about what it means when your OneDrive account is frozen and how to unfreeze it by visiting the Microsoft support page.
    3. Contact Microsoft Support: If you're unable to resolve the issue on your own, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your account status.

Unfortunately, without unfreezing your account first, you won't be able to delete any files directly.
