Thank you for your question and for sharing the details into Microsoft Q&A Forum.
I understand this is frustrating, especially since Outlook suddenly stopped sending mail and you’re now unable to re-add the account because the “Add Account” button can’t be selected. First, you might want to check the AI-generated solution shared in the thread, that answer suggested methods that worth trying.
Below are some steps you can try in Legacy Outlook for Mac to see if they help restore sending mail and allow you to add the account again.
1. Confirm Outlook is not set to Work Offline
- In Outlook, select Outlook (menu bar)
- Check whether Work Offline is enabled
- If it is enabled, turn it off and test sending again.
2. Confirm connectivity and mailbox storage
- Verify your Mac has stable internet access (test with a browser).
- Also check whether your mailbox / Microsoft cloud storage is full, since a full mailbox can prevent sending/receiving.
3. If your account is IMAP/POP: verify SMTP settings
- Go to Tools > Accounts
- Select your email account
- Under Outgoing server, select More Options
- Enable SMTP authentication and enter credentials as required by your provider
4. Clear cache / reset profile
- In Outlook, go to Help > Troubleshooting Information
- Select Clear Cache
- Then try Reset Outlook Profile from the same Troubleshooting area
- Restart Outlook and test adding the account again
5. Create a new Outlook Profile
- Quit Outlook
- Open Finder > Applications
- Ctrl + click Microsoft Outlook > Show Package Contents
- Open Contents > SharedSupport
- Launch Outlook Profile Manager
- Create a new profile, set it as Default, then restart Outlook and add the account in the new profile
