Older Windows versions displayed "Xbox 360 Peripherals" as a top-level category in Device Manager. Newer Windows builds organize drivers by manufacturer instead, changing how the category appears — though the underlying driver remains the same.
- Open Device Manager and locate the unknown device
- Right-click and select "Update driver"
- Choose "Browse my computer for drivers"
- Select "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"
- Find and select "Xbox 360 Peripherals" (or scroll to Microsoft if grouped by manufacturer)
- Choose "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows"
- Click "Next" and confirm "Install this driver software anyway" if prompted
- Restart your computer
If Xbox 360 Peripherals doesn't appear:
Click "Have Disk" and browse to the driver file location. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository, locate the folder containing xusb21.inf, select that file, and proceed with installation.
