    Hello Mary Owen
Thank you for posting question to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

May I know if you are having a personal account (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com) or a business account (@domain.com) ?
If this is a business account, you could ask your administrator to sign out your account from all devices, change the password and enforce Multifactor authentication (MFA).
If this is a personal account, please change the password, also enforce MFA and sign out from all devices.
When you failed to send an email, you should receive a bounce-back email indicating that this email could not be delivered - could you share me a screenshot of the error message?
I also initiated a private message so you could share it with me - this should help me provide you more accurate troubleshooting steps.

I am looking forward to your reply.

If your email account was hacked and you have reset the password but are still experiencing issues with emails not coming in or going out, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

    1. Check Account Settings: Ensure that your email settings (such as SMTP and IMAP/POP settings) are configured correctly. Sometimes, after a password reset, these settings may need to be updated.
    2. Review Email Rules: Check if there are any email rules set up that might be redirecting your emails to other folders or deleting them.
    3. Check for Forwarding: Make sure that your account is not set to forward emails to another address without your knowledge.
    4. Revoke Access: If you suspect that the hacker still has access, consider revoking access to any connected apps or devices. This can help secure your account further.
    5. Contact Support: If the issue persists, it might be beneficial to contact Microsoft Support for assistance. They can help you with account recovery and investigate any potential issues with your account.
    6. Monitor for Further Issues: Keep an eye on your account for any suspicious activity and inform your contacts about the potential compromise to prevent them from falling victim to phishing attempts.

Following these steps should help you regain full functionality of your email account.
