Hi Haz,
Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand you cannot open images inside folders on Windows 10 and you only see the “Not implemented” error unless the image is on the desktop.
Before proceeding, I need to narrow this down a bit:
- Does this happen with all image formats (PNG, JPG, BMP) or only specific ones?
- Does the issue appear in all folders, including Documents and Pictures?
In the meantime, you can try these steps:
1, Update Microsoft Photos
- Open Microsoft Store
- Select Library
- Click Get updates and install all available updates
2, Repair or reset the Photos app
- Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features
- Select Microsoft Photos > Advanced options
- Choose Terminate, then Reset
3, Try reinstalling Microsoft Photos
- Open PowerShell (Admin)
- Run:
get-appxpackage *Microsoft.Windows.Photos* | remove-appxpackage - Restart the device
- Reinstall Photos from Microsoft Store
4, Test with another image viewer
- Right‑click the image
- Select Open with
- Choose Paint or another installed app
5, Check file type associations
- Open Settings > Apps > Default apps
- Choose default apps by file type and ensure PNG/JPG open with a valid viewer
6, Run a system file repair
- Open Command Prompt (Admin)
- Run:
sfc /scannow
