Microsoft account stuck in parental consent loop even though user is over 18

2026-02-07T06:00:43.21+00:00

Note:

I am unable to sign in using the affected Microsoft account because it is stuck in a parental-consent loop.

This question is posted using an alternate Microsoft account for support purposes only.

Affected account email:

******@gmail.com

Issue description:

My Microsoft account is incorrectly treated as a child account.

I am over 18 years old and I am not part of any Microsoft Family group.

Whenever I try to sign in (Microsoft Store / Xbox sign-in), the system asks whether I am a parent or not.

When I select “I am a parent”, it immediately loops back to the same parental consent screen.

There is no way to proceed, approve consent, or access my account.

This loop prevents me from:

  • Signing in to Microsoft Store
  • Purchasing or accessing games (e.g., Minecraft)
  • Accessing account profile settings

This confirms the account is stuck in a parental-consent loop and cannot be resolved from the user side.

Request:

Please escalate this case for a manual backend correction to remove the child/family status

and convert this account to a standard adult Microsoft account.

It seems that your Microsoft account is incorrectly classified as a child account, which is causing the parental consent loop. Unfortunately, this issue cannot be resolved from the user side. To address this, you will need to contact Microsoft Support directly for assistance in escalating your case. They can help with the manual backend correction needed to change your account status from a child account to a standard adult account.

Here are some steps you can take to contact Microsoft Support:

    1. Go to the Microsoft Support page.
    2. Select the option to contact support.
    3. Explain your situation clearly, mentioning that your account is stuck in a parental consent loop despite being over 18 and not part of any family group.

This will help ensure that your issue is addressed appropriately by the support team.
