No Media Information in Media Player

Why is CD information not working in Media Player? I read that it has been discontinued but this is a massive pain and I want to know why on earth this has been done and why I don't have the option to pay for it to continue, which I would happily do?

Hello Ramon Hammond, welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

From other user discussions online, Microsoft no longer supports automatic CD metadata lookup in Media Player. The online service that Windows Media Player previously used to retrieve track and album information appears to have been retired, so CD titles no longer auto‑populate. There is no way to restore it.

The good news is there’s a path forward. There are third‑party tools that still query online databases (such as Exact Audio Copy, foobar2000, MediaMonkey, or iTunes). You can rip the CD with one of these tools and edit or verify tags using a tag editor.

I hope this information is helpful. Warm regards,
