How do I access Copilot-Generated Excel Templates on Surface Device with Microsoft 365

Description:

  • I purchased a new Surface PC for personal use, with Microsoft 365 and Copilot, expecting seamless integration and access to productivity features.
  • When requesting Copilot to generate a basic Excel template (for medical test tracking), Copilot provided a download link hosted on a Skype.com domain.
  • Despite being signed in with my personal Microsoft account and using Chrome on my Surface, the link is not accessible or downloadable.
  • This issue prevents me from using Copilot’s basic functionality—generating and downloading templates—which was a key reason for my purchase.
  • The problem appears to be related to Copilot’s backend file handling, which uses Skype infrastructure for file sharing. This may not be accessible for personal accounts or in certain environments.
  • I require a resolution so that Copilot-generated files are directly downloadable and usable for personal Microsoft 365 users, as expected from Microsoft products and services.
  • When I spoke with online support, I was asked whether I was using a VPN, and I am not. I was then told to come here and 'ask my question'.

Impact:

  • This issue blocks basic productivity tasks and undermines the value proposition of Surface, Microsoft 365, and Copilot for personal users. I cannot justify the subscription if I can access files generated by Co-Pilot.
  • Manual workarounds are not acceptable for a paid, integrated Microsoft solution.

Request:

  • Please resolve this issue so that Copilot-generated files (such as Excel templates) are accessible and downloadable for me and for personal Microsoft 365 users on Surface devices.
  • Provide clear guidance or updates on when this functionality will be fully supported (if at all).

I have exactly the same problem.

    1. Microsoft 365 License: I have a m365 personal licence
    2. Supported Account: I have a m365 personal licence
    3. Network Requirements: I have a 500meg up/down Internet connection And I have just got off an online Microsoft course that said that I can do this. I tried & I can not.

Can I get a response to my note above?

At the very least, you could provide the information needed to determine items 2 and 3 above.

This is not support. It's data. Data that adds further complexity and no value to a simple question. It's data I can't use.

With respect to your 3 items:

    1. Yes I have a Microsoft 365 license assigned my account.
    2. What is an Microsoft Entra ID account? How can I verify that? And where in the process of purchasing 365 with Co-Pilot am I or any other customer advised of that? I purchased my Surface PS and 365 with co-pilot directly from the Microsoft store.
    3. How do you suggest that I ensure that my internet connection meets the necessary network requirements for Copilot to function correctly? This includes allowing access to specific domains used by Microsoft for file handling.

I have sought assistance from Co-pilot, from Microsoft Support and now you on the ability to do something as basic as access the template file Co-pilot offered to create. This is a basic item. At the very least you could provide the information to enable me to determine items 2 and 3 above.

If you cannot do that, please instruct me on how I can get a refund for my co-pilot subscription I am clearly not able to use it.

To access Copilot-generated Excel templates on your Surface device with Microsoft 365, ensure that you meet the following requirements:

    1. Microsoft 365 License: Make sure you have a Microsoft 365 license assigned to your account, as this is necessary for using Copilot features.
    2. Supported Account: You must be using a Microsoft Entra ID account. Personal accounts may face limitations in accessing certain features, including file downloads from Copilot.
    3. Network Requirements: Ensure that your internet connection meets the necessary network requirements for Copilot to function correctly. This includes allowing access to specific domains used by Microsoft for file handling.

If you are experiencing issues with downloading files from a link provided by Copilot, it may be due to the backend infrastructure, which could restrict access for personal accounts.

For a more seamless experience, consider checking with Microsoft support to confirm if there are any specific restrictions for personal accounts or if there are updates regarding this functionality.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide a specific resolution or timeline for when this feature will be fully supported for personal users, as this information is not available in the current context.
