Is my Microsoft account locked from purchasing anything?

Hello! I'm going to preface that there has been fraudulent activity in the past with my account getting hacked, but I have since then retrieved this account and the money they spent on this account.

My Microsoft account will not, under any circumstance, let me add a payment method or just use any card to purchase anything under my account on the platform. The error that appears after every single attempt reads:

*Check that the details in all fields are correct or try a different card.

*I've tried three different cards. I've typed in the correct information every single time. Is there any way that Microsoft locked my account from purchasing anything because of the fraudulent spending that the hacker previously did?

It sounds like your Microsoft account may have restrictions due to the previous fraudulent activity. When an account has been compromised, Microsoft often implements security measures that can include locking certain functionalities, such as adding payment methods or making purchases, to protect the account from further unauthorized transactions.

Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Check Account Status: Ensure that your account is in good standing and that there are no outstanding issues or alerts that need to be addressed.
    2. Contact Microsoft Support: Since you are having trouble adding payment methods, it may be best to reach out to Microsoft Support directly. They can provide specific information regarding any restrictions on your account and guide you through the process of resolving them.
    3. Verify Payment Information: Make sure that the payment methods you are trying to add are valid and issued from the same country/region as your Microsoft account. Sometimes, cards that are not from the correct region can be declined.
    4. Wait for Lockouts to Expire: If you have attempted to add cards multiple times, your account may be temporarily locked from making further attempts. You may need to wait for a certain period before trying again.

If the issue persists, Microsoft Support will be your best resource for understanding why your account is restricted and how to lift those restrictions.
