I am not happy with the response that I got regarding sign in activity with the wrong IP address and geography location. Microsoft informed me to contact my network provider to reboot the internet/modem. This was done last evening. I logged on this morning and reviewed my sign in activity and still shows the incorrect IP address and location.

I need professional help as to how to fix this!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

In many cases, this happens because of things like VPNs, mobile networks, proxies, or your internet provider routing traffic through different locations. These can make your sign-ins appear to come from a different city or even another country, even though it’s really you.

To help narrow this down, may I ask:

    1. Are you using a VPN, DNS-changing software, or any third-party antivirus/security app with network protection features?
    2. Are you signing in on more than one device (phone, tablet, another PC)?
    3. Does the activity show “Successful sign-in” and match the times you were online?

    Regards,

    John J.D.

If your sign-in activity is showing the wrong IP address and geographical location even after changing your password, it may indicate that someone else is still trying to access your account or that your account has been compromised. Here are some steps you can take:

    1. Monitor Sign-in Logs: Check the sign-in logs for any unusual activity. Look for failed sign-ins or sign-ins from unfamiliar locations. This can help you identify if someone else is attempting to access your account.
    2. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): If you haven't already, enable MFA on your account. This adds an additional layer of security by requiring a second form of verification when signing in.
    3. Check for Compromised Devices: Ensure that the devices you are using to sign in are secure and free from malware. Sometimes, malware can cause unusual sign-in behavior.
    4. Use Microsoft Entra ID Protection: Utilize Microsoft Entra ID Protection to help detect and mitigate risks associated with unusual sign-ins. This tool can provide insights into potential threats and help secure your account.
    5. Contact Support: If the problem persists, consider contacting Microsoft support for further assistance. They can help investigate the issue and provide additional security measures.

By taking these steps, you can better protect your account and address the issue of incorrect sign-in information.
