I just installed windows onto my new computer but in the settings, it says: Windows reported that no product key was found on your device. Error code 0xC004F213. My previous computer had windows 11 home so i have no clue why I'm having this issue.

    Hi 𝕲𝕺𝕯,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A Forum. I understand you are encountering Windows activation error 0xC004F213 after installing Windows on a new computer, even though your previous device was running Windows 11 Home.

Please make sure you already tried the Q&A Assist steps. In addition, I would like to narrow this down a bit to better understand the scenario:

    1. Are you currently signed in on the new device using the same Microsoft account that was used on the previous Windows 11 Home device?
    2. During installation, did you confirm that Windows 11 Home (not Pro) was installed on the new computer?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

1, Verify the installed Windows edition

    • Open Settings > Go to System > Select About
    • Confirm that the edition shows Windows 11 Home

    2, Use the Activation Troubleshooter

    • Open Settings > Go to System > Select Activation > Click Troubleshoot
    • If prompted, select I changed hardware on this device recently and sign in with your Microsoft account

3, Re‑link the digital license by signing in again

    • Open Settings > Go to Accounts > Select Your info
    • Sign out, then restart the device
    • Sign back in using the Microsoft account previously linked to the old device

    4, Check current activation status

    • Open Command Prompt as administrator
    • Run slmgr /xpr
    • Close the window after the status appears

5, Ensure the device is connected to the internet and fully updated

    • Open Settings > Go to Windows Update
    • Select Check for updates and install all available updates

In short, this issue occurs because Windows does not automatically transfer a license from one computer to another unless the license type allows it and it is properly linked to your Microsoft account. A clean installation on new hardware is treated as a new device, which is why Windows reports that no product key was found.

If the licence you had previously has transfer rights then you use the activation troubleshooter and select Changed hardware.

If you have a product ley with your licence then enter that key in Change product key in Settings.

    1. Was the licence provided by the system builder.
    2. Part of the Windows 10 free upgrade from Windows 7 or 8.
    3. Did you buy a Windows 10/11 licence.

To check the current licence open Command prompt and enter slmgr /dlv [press return] post a screenshot of the result.
