I have been having a frequent error that prevents my Screensaver - a which is a slide show of pictures - from displaying properly.
I was thinking of trying some system, command line tools, like sfc or one of the others

That error usually implies the system is having trouble reading the source path or indexing the files, rather than Windows system files being corrupted, so SFC might be overkill as a first step.
In your Screensaver settings, is it configured to use the "Photos" option pointing to a specific folder, or is it set to pull from your general Picture Library?
It points to a specific folder. I think it is "D:\Users\myusername\Pictures\Papers"
I think it would be C:, not D:, but I will assume it is D: so you have at least something new to try. There is a good chance Windows Search isn't looking there. The Photos screensaver is weirdly dependent on the Search Index rather than just looking at the folder directly.
Hit Start, type Indexing Options, and open it. Click the Modify button, look for your D: drive in the list, expand it to find that Papers folder, and make sure the box next to it is checked. If it's already checked, uncheck it and re-check it to force it to see the files again. Let it sit for a bit to build the index and then see if the error persists.

No, it really is D: drive. Not C: drive as is normally the case. It is an mechanic drive, as opposed to a SSD. It mostly just houses pictures and documents

It took hours to re-index all the items in my Papers folder. There sure were a lot of them - over 200,000 and counting.
Now I get to see if things work any better
That file count is extremely high for the legacy screensaver to handle. The built-in slideshow feature may run out of memory or timeout when trying to cache file paths for libraries that large.
If the error comes back, it is likely due to the sheer volume of files crashing the buffer rather than the drive index.
