Thanks for letting me know. Windows Media Player Legacy gets very limited updates and can no longer perform some actions. If you'd like to burn some cd's then I'd recommend finding and using a newer version of media player.

I am attempting to burn a cd and I keep getting an error message. My cd driver isn't outdated and my cd is blank and clean and what I am attempting to burn is within the time limit. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Although both above answers are helpful it would be best if you let us know the error code you're getting as well as what you're trying to burn so we can provide more personalized assistance.

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!
Burning CD should be simple, so I understand how annoying it is when an error keeps appearing even though the disc and drive look fine. To better help you, can you share the exact error message (or code, if any)? In the meantime, here are something to check:
1 - Try a different burning method
- First, set the write speed to the lowest available.
- Use “Burn to disc” from File Explorer instead of a third‑party tool, or vice‑versa.
- Try another burning program. If it works, the issue is with the original burning method rather than the drive.
2 - Replace the blank disc
- A disc can look clean and still be defective.
- Try another brand‑new blank CD.
3 - Confirm the drive can actually write
- Look for wording such as
CD‑RW,DVD‑RW,DVD Multi Recorder, orRWon the drive. - If it does not have these labels, it cannot burn discs even if Windows detects it.
If the issue persists, please let me know the exact error message text so I can narrow it down more accurately. Thanks for your time!

Q&A Assist2026-02-09T04:21:46.2333333+00:00 AI generated content. This question contains an answer created with AI from Q&A Assist. Learn moreIf you are receiving an error message while attempting to burn a CD, it may be due to a few common issues. One possible cause is that you might be trying to initiate the burn process while a file copy operation is still in progress. According to the information available, if you start burning the disc before the file copy has completed, Windows will attempt to burn files to the same drive in a different session, which is not supported.
To resolve this issue, ensure that you wait for any ongoing file copy operations to finish before starting the burn process. This should help eliminate the error message you are encountering.
