Dear Sirs,

we are ecru(.)pl, 3D furniture and interior design "PRO100" software developers.

We faced a big problem with the Windows 10 KB5073724 patch, and last Win 11 too. After starting our (open GL powered) application the system freezes and the hard reset is the only way to get it working back. We diagnosed the the problem to appear on Nvidia 8xx i 9xx, MX130 cards, we do not know if there are any other ones affected. The Win 11 patch is probably(!) KB5074109.

The only way we found is uninstalling the Windows patches, which is neither always possible, and nor recommended either.

We have performed several imaginable for us tests with all Windows patches, fresh drivers reinstalation, etc.

Can we please have your urgent support ?

KB5074109 is a very troublesome update, Microsoft released 3 out-of-band updates to resolve many of the bugs in that update, separately, Nvidia have announced they are investigating a widely reported compatibility issue with their drivers and that January update, they advise uninstalling the January update until they resolve the problem.

This may also be true of the Windows 10 KB5073724 January update.

If uninstalling that January update is not available to you, the February update will be released tomorrow, that will include all fixes for the January update that Microsoft have released, the best option would be to wait for that update to see if that resolves the problems with the Nvidia drivers, if not, try installing a slightly older version of the drivers Nvidia provide for your graphics card.

It sounds like you're experiencing significant issues with your application following the installation of specific Windows updates (KB5073724 and possibly KB5074109). While I can't provide direct support for troubleshooting specific patches, I can suggest some general best practices for ensuring compatibility with Windows updates:

    1. Check for Graphics Driver Updates: Ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers installed for the affected Nvidia cards. Sometimes, issues arise from outdated drivers that are not fully compatible with the latest Windows updates.
    2. Windows Version Check: Verify that your application is compatible with the version of Windows you are using. This can help identify if the issue is related to the specific updates.
    3. Testing in Windowed Mode: If your application can run in windowed mode, try this setting to see if it alleviates the freezing issue. Desktop app functionality can sometimes be impacted when not run in this mode.
    4. Using Whole-File Patches: If you are distributing patches for your application, consider using whole-file patches to minimize issues related to the original installation source.
    5. Contact Microsoft Support: Since this issue seems to be related to specific Windows updates, reaching out to Microsoft support may provide you with more tailored assistance regarding these patches.

If uninstalling the patches is necessary, ensure that you follow the proper procedures to do so, as outlined in the Windows Installer documentation.
