I wish to close my Microsoft account and NOT renew it please

Microsoft accounts cannot be closed by support staff on your behalf due to security requirements. However, the account owner can close it directly. To prevent further charges, sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/services, select any active subscription, and turn off recurring billing. If it already shows “Expires on (date),” renewal is disabled. To close the account, go to https://account.live.com/closeaccount.aspx, sign in once more to confirm ownership, review the notices, and select Mark account for closure. The account will be permanently deleted after the 30‑ or 60‑day closure period.

I have been trying to close this acvount for over an hour and still have not managed it. I am 82 years ‘old’ and cannot cope any more!😥

To close your Microsoft account and ensure that it does not renew, you can follow these steps:

1. Sign in to the Microsoft Account Close Portal: Go to the Microsoft Account Close Portal and log in with your Microsoft account.
2. Review Pre-Close Actions: Read the list of actions you should take before closing your account and complete any that apply to you.
3. Acknowledge Consequences: After completing the necessary actions, select Next and acknowledge that you understand the consequences of closing your account.
4. Mark Account for Closure: Finally, select Mark account for closure. Your account will be closed in 30 days, during which you can reopen it if needed.

If you have subscriptions, make sure to cancel them as well to avoid any charges. You can cancel your subscriptions in the Microsoft 365 admin center by turning off recurring billing if it is enabled.
