I have Office Home 2021 on my Mac for the past 3 years. When I opened Excel today I was prompted to activate a Microsoft 365 account. My Office Home 2021 was a one time purchase. I don't need a subscription account. I next decided to purchase a one time license by upgrading to Office Home 2024. When I selected to install Office Home 2024 it keeps installing Office Home 2021. How to I fix this? I can't find a phone number to tap;k to a person about this issue

Can you please uninstall it first.
Then please use the instruction here: https://support.microsoft.com/office/how-to-remove-office-license-files-on-a-mac-b032c0f6-a431-4dad-83a9-6b727c03b193 Download and run the license removal tool to clear cached license.
Then reinstall it. See if it helps.
Thank you, Emily, for your quick response to my problem. I'm not sure yet if your answer was the solution. Before I purchased Office Home 2024 I tried to refresh the Office 2021 license. However, I received an "Error 44" response. That's when I decided to upgrade. Next I ran my CleanMyMac software to remove all of the Office 2021 files. When I downloaded Office Home 2024 it downloaded Office Home 2021 and installed it instead. This is where I lost it and was frustrated. As a last resort I again did a "license refresh" and this time it seemed to work. The About Excel popup changed from Office Home 2021 to Office Home 2024 and the activation prompt for Office 365 disappeared. I can again create and edit my Excel files as I did before this issue. I will continue to monitor until, and if, it stops working again. If it does, I will perform your recommendation. I will accept your response as the resolution to my problem.
