Can’t edit or create excel spreadsheet on my iPad mini 7

I have an iPad mini 7 (new 2025) running iOS 26 and it won’t allow me to edit or create an excel spreadsheet without a Microsoft 365 subscription. It works ok on my iPhone 13 mini running iOS 26 and it works on my wife’s iPad mini 6 running iOS 26. The screen is definitely less than 10 inches and according to ms policy it should work. Everything is up to date, so is this because ms has not updated the device iPad mini 7 to it’s allowable devices for free use or is there some other problem?

I have to say that there is no way to talk to anyone about this issue at ms support. It is all AI and if the issue doesn’t fit in with their solutions there is nothing. Very disappointed.

My use of the Apple numbers app was not very successful. Is there any way to get MS 365 to recognise the iPad mini 7 so I can get free usage of excel?

Thanks for that. I’ve never heard of that app but I’ve just downloaded it to try. I’ve also found a telephone number for support that I’ll try tomorrow.

You can also use the iPad numbers app (free) to edit excel spreadsheets.

I rejected the AI answer because it only repeated my questions. I will have to contact ms support.
