My account is current, but has been blocked. How can I unblock it and get access to email?

    Hello @Dan Stevens,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A Forum, and I’m sorry to hear that you’re running into the “tenant blocked access” error.

I’d like to help you move forward, but before I can determine the right next step, I need to understand your role in the organization. Could you please confirm whether you’re signing in as an end user of the tenant or if you’re a Global Admin (or IT administrator) for the Microsoft 365 environment? This information will guide us toward the correct path to resolve the issue.

If you’re an end user, the best approach is to contact your organization’s IT administrator, as only someone with admin permissions can review tenant‑level restrictions, unblock accounts, check security policies, or confirm whether there’s a configuration issue. Errors that involve a tenant being blocked always require admin‑level visibility, and unfortunately, end users won’t be able to resolve this from their side.

If you are the Global Admin, then you’ll have a direct path to resolve this by contacting Microsoft Support. You can either call the Microsoft Support hotline for your region or open a service request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Please try to find the related hotline number to call the frontline and let them raise a ticket for you: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

(When you call the support number, you may hear an introduction of about 30 seconds such as "you can visit the link...". You can ignore this introduction and wait until you are presented with the options. Then press "1" as a business email user, and again "1" for technical help.)

Microsoft Support can review tenant‑level logs and unblock the issue for you since these tools aren’t accessible from the community side.

If you are unable to reach support via the phone numbers, there is a workaround you might consider: You can register for a new Microsoft 365 tenant by signing up for a trial subscription here: Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365

Once the new tenant is created, you can access the admin center and submit a support ticket from there, requesting to speak with the Data Protection Team on behalf of your original tenant.

    Important notes:

    • This new trial tenant will not give you access to any of the data or settings in your original locked tenant. It is solely a temporary means to contact Microsoft support.
    • The resolution time might be longer as you are contacting support from a different tenant.
    • Remember to cancel the trial subscription for the new tenant once your issue with the original account is resolved to avoid any unintended charges.

Whenever you get a chance, please let me know whether you are signing in as an end user or as an admin. Once I have that clarification, I can help point you to the most effective next steps. I appreciate your patience, and I’m here to assist you through this.

    Kind regards,

If you are encountering a "tenant blocked access error," it may be due to restrictions set by your network administrator or inactivity in your account. To resolve this issue, consider the following steps:

    1. Contact Your IT Department: If your account is part of an organization, reach out to your IT department to check if there are any tenant restrictions in place that could be blocking your access. They can help unblock your access.
    2. Check for Inactivity: If your account has been inactive for a period, it might have been blocked. You may need to follow specific procedures to reactivate it, which your IT department can assist with.
    3. Use the Microsoft Entra Admin Center: If you have administrative access, you can check the settings in the Microsoft Entra admin center to see if there are any policies that need to be adjusted.
    4. Follow Microsoft Documentation: Refer to the Microsoft documentation on tenant restrictions for detailed instructions on how to resolve access issues related to tenant policies.

If you still cannot regain access, consider submitting a support request to Microsoft for further assistance.
