Unable to save PDF from Chrome after download.

Hi! Basically, I am on a microsoft surface laptop 7, and I am unable to save my PDF downloads from chrome. Usually, I press download, it comes up in the top right corner of chrome, I press it and I can then save it to file if I want. However, when i press control s, or save, nothing happens.

I have tried:

Site settings - download PDF: when I do this I can't even open the download.

Open PDF in Chrome: this is usually what I have it on and it works just fine but now it wont.

Chrome is updated. I have also changed the location of downloads, and said to ask me where it is going to be saved - i have since turned this off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

    Hi there!

Just to add up on the above, for the Extension. Paste this on the Chrome URL bar: chrome://extensions

Once done, try disabling all the Extension you have in Chrome and relaunch Chrome afterwards and see if you can download or open PDF files. If this works, then try to disable Chrome Extension 1 by 1 to find which extension causes this.

Alternatively, you can try creating a new Chrome profile next to see if it will work.

Just click your profile picture (top right) of Chrome:

    • Add → Continue without account
    • Open a PDF and try saving

If it works on the new profile then it is likely that your current profile is corrupted and best is to use a new one. I hope this helps!

Please note that this is a public forum, I will be responding you in short period of time and regret for a delay in response. As I am merely a fellow user trying to provide insight and information that may be helpful to others. Thanks!

It seems you are experiencing issues saving PDF files from Chrome on your Microsoft Surface Laptop 7. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Reset Chrome Settings: Sometimes, resetting Chrome to its original settings can resolve issues. Go to Chrome's settings, scroll down to "Advanced," and select "Reset settings to their original defaults."
    2. Check Permissions: Ensure that Chrome has the necessary permissions to save files. You can check this in your system settings under privacy and security.
    3. Clear Cache and Cookies: Clearing your browser's cache and cookies may help. Go to Chrome settings, find "Privacy and security," and select "Clear browsing data."
    4. Try Incognito Mode: Open an Incognito window (Ctrl + Shift + N) and try downloading the PDF again. This mode disables extensions that might interfere with downloads.
    5. Disable Extensions: Some extensions can cause issues with downloads. Temporarily disable all extensions and see if the problem persists.
    6. Reinstall Chrome: If none of the above solutions work, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling Chrome to ensure you have a clean installation.

If the issue continues after trying these steps, it may be worth checking for any updates or issues specific to your operating system or Chrome version.
