    Hi,

Thank you for sharing your question. I understand how confusing and frustrating it can be when you try to stop a background process, only to see it immediately start again without your permission.

Gaming Services is a core system component required for the Microsoft Store, Xbox app, and Game Pass features on Windows. Because it manages game installation, updates, licensing, and Xbox integration, Windows is designed to automatically restart it whenever it is terminated. This behavior is intentional, and Windows treats Gaming Services as a protected service to ensure that apps relying on it function correctly. As a result, Task Manager cannot permanently stop it, and the service will relaunch even if you manually end the process.

To reduce background activity, you can disable Xbox‑related apps, turn off Xbox Game Bar, and remove Game Pass‑dependent features, but Gaming Services itself cannot be safely stopped or removed without causing issues with Microsoft Store apps and game functionality. The best supported option is to leave Gaming Services running, as it uses minimal resources when idle, and Windows manages it automatically to maintain stability.

Are you trying to stop Gaming Services because of performance concerns, high CPU usage, or because it appears when you are not using any games?

Feel free to share more details about what you’re trying to accomplish, and I’ll be happy to guide you toward the best solution.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Noel

The behavior you're experiencing with Gaming Services returning after being terminated is likely due to its design as a background service that is essential for managing gaming-related tasks and updates. Windows may automatically restart certain services to ensure that they are always running, especially if they are required for system functionality or user experience.

If you want to prevent Gaming Services from running in the background, you can try the following steps:

    1. Disable the Service: You can disable the Gaming Services from the Services management console. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and find "Gaming Services". Right-click and select "Properties", then set the startup type to "Disabled".
    2. Uninstall Gaming Services: If you do not use any games that require it, you can uninstall Gaming Services through PowerShell. Run PowerShell as an administrator and execute the command: Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.GamingServices | Remove-AppxPackage -AllUsers. After that, you can reinstall it if needed from the Microsoft Store.
    3. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Windows and Gaming Services are up to date, as updates may fix issues related to service management.

Keep in mind that disabling or uninstalling Gaming Services may affect your gaming experience or functionality of games that rely on it.
