Product key redemption issue.

I redeemed a Microsoft 365 Business Standard product key via the Friends & Family program. The subscription was confirmed and I received a confirmation email, but I cannot sign into the admin center. The username I created during setup is not recognized. I need Tier 2 support for a tenant provisioning issue on a product key redemption. I have my tenant ID. However, I can not get through to anybody who can help me, over live chat or when I call phone support. I just get told by the automated machine that I should visit https://aka.ms/mac365. BUT I CAN'T LOGIN TO MY ACCOUNT. So where do I go from here?

    Hi @Dwain D,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for reaching out, and I understand how difficult this issue has been, especially when you're unable to sign into the Admin Center and support channels continue redirecting you to self‑service pages.

When you redeemed your Microsoft 365 Business Standard product key through the Friends & Family program, Microsoft automatically created a new business tenant for you. Although redemption completed successfully and you received a confirmation email, it appears the admin account created during setup was not fully provisioned. This can happen when:

    • Not fully provisioned due to a tenant‑creation delay
    • Entered incorrectly during sign‑in (even a small typo causes the “account not recognized” error)
    • Created under a different domain than expected (for example, ******@yourdomain.onmicrosoft.com)
    • Not synchronized yet across Microsoft’s identity systems, which can happen when provisioning stalls
    • Disconnected from the tenant if the setup flow timed out before completion.

Because of this, the system currently treats you as a personal Microsoft account user and redirects you to https://aka.ms/mac365, which is for personal subscriptions. This is why phone and chat support could not view your subscription or escalate your case.

This is almost certainly a tenant provisioning issue, which must be resolved manually by the Microsoft Billing/Identity Support Team. You cannot fix the issue yourself because:

    • You cannot sign into the tenant,
    • Only Microsoft support can repair an incomplete or stuck provisioning of a Business tenant created through a product key.

Here are recommended next steps for you:

    1. Try signing in with the default admin domain

Every Microsoft 365 business tenant is automatically assigned a domain in the format: <tenantname>.onmicrosoft.com

If your tenant ID is available, the domain name typically matches it.

Please try signing in using one of these formats: admin@<tenantname>.onmicrosoft.com

If you created a custom username: <customname>@<tenantname>.onmicrosoft.com

You may also attempt a password reset: https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/ChangePassword.aspx

If you receive “This account does not exist,” it confirms provisioning did not complete.

    2. Open a Billing/Technical support ticket without logging in

Since you can’t access the Admin Center, you can open a business support case without logging in by using the phone support link:

Business Support (no admin login required): Phone Number – Microsoft Support

Describe the issue as: “Tenant provisioning issue after redeeming Business Standard product key through Friends & Family program. Cannot sign into the newly created admin account.”

    Please include:

    • Your tenant ID
    • The email used during redemption
    • The date of product key activation
    • A screenshot of the confirmation email (if available)
    • The product key (only when submitting privately—never publicly)

The Billing/Identity Support team will be able to:

    • Locate your tenant using the tenant ID,
    • Validate ownership through the product key and redemption email,
    • Repair or complete provisioning,
    • Recreate or reset your global admin account.

Once completed, you should receive a working admin login such as: admin@<tenantname>.onmicrosoft.com.

    3. If the form above is region‑locked

Please try contacting support through the global support portal: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus

    Choose:

    • Business
    • Microsoft 365
    • Billing and subscription support

If phone support loops you, ask specifically for:“Assistance with a Business tenant provisioning failure after product key redemption.”

This ensures your case is routed to the correct team.

I hope this information helps. Please try the steps and let me know whether they resolve the issue. If the problem persists, we can work together to find a solution.

If you are unable to sign into the Microsoft 365 admin center and your username is not recognized, you may need to follow these steps:

    1. Check Your Email: Ensure that you are using the correct email address associated with your Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscription. Sometimes, the email used during the setup might be different from what you expect.
    2. Password Reset: If you believe you are using the correct email but still cannot log in, try resetting your password. You can do this by going to the Microsoft account sign-in page and selecting "Forgot password?".
    3. Contact Support: Since you mentioned that you cannot get through to support via live chat or phone, consider creating a trial Microsoft 365 tenant. This will allow you to access the Admin Center and submit a support ticket directly from there. Here’s how:
      • Register for a new trial subscription.
      • Once registered, go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and click on "Help & Support" to submit a support ticket.
      • Request assistance regarding your previous tenant and product key redemption issue.
    4. Documentation: If you have your tenant ID, make sure to include it in your support request to expedite the process.
    5. Follow Up: After submitting your support ticket, keep an eye on your email for any responses from the support team.

If you continue to experience issues, you may need to persist with contacting support until you reach a representative who can assist you with your Tier 2 support needs.
