Why is my Windows lock screen showing me photos of modern luxury hospital beds?

My Windows lock screen is set to Windows spotlight. The images rotate every so often and are usually pleasant images, like lavender fields and scenic mountain pics. From the beginning of Feb, it changed all of a sudden to pictures of modern luxury hospital beds. I keep hitting the "Not Interested" button to get it to change, but it just keeps showing other stock photos of hospital beds, hospital lobbies, or science labs.

Given the fact that I don't work in the health care industry, is there any reason why Windows keeps pushing these depressing pictures of hospital beds for my lock screen?

    Welcome Ashley Park,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q & A Forum.  I know how frustrating it can be when your Windows lock screen is showing repeated Windows Spotlight images that you find irrelevant or unpleasant.   Please help narrow this down by answering these questions:

    • Are you using Windows 11 or Windows 10, and is the lock screen background set specifically to Windows Spotlight?
    • Is this happening on a personal device, or a work or school–managed device with policies applied?

In addition to the previous suggestions, you could also explore these options:

Step 1: Turn off Windows Spotlight completely, then restart

    • Open Settings
    • Go to Personalization
    • Select Lock screen
    • Change Background from Windows Spotlight to Picture
    • Restart the device

Step 2: Reset Windows Spotlight cached settings

    • Press Windows key + R
    • Type the following path and press Enter  %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings
    • Rename settings.dat to settings.dat.bak
    • Restart the device

Step 3: Clear previously downloaded Spotlight images

    • Press Windows key + R
    • Enter the following path  %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets
    • Delete all files in the folder

    Step 4: Re‑enable Windows Spotlight

    • Open Settings
    • Go to Personalization
    • Select Lock screen
    • Set Background back to Windows Spotlight
    • Lock the device a few times to allow new images to download

Step 5: Use a fixed image or slideshow if content is not acceptable

    • If Spotlight continues showing unwanted themes, switching to Picture or Slideshow is the only supported way to fully control lock screen visuals, as Spotlight content selection cannot be manually filtered.

I really hope that the information I gave above was helpful to you. Please feel free to reply below and let me know if you have further concern on this matter.

    Hi Ashley,

Windows Spotlight images are not based on your personal data or job. They come from rotating image collections, and sometimes the feed gets stuck on a theme such as modern interiors or technology spaces, which can include hospitals or labs. Your “Not interested” clicks may not be refreshing the set properly.

    Next Step:

Turn Spotlight off: Settings > Personalization > Lock screen > change Background to Picture

    Restart the PC

Once done, switch it back to windows spotlight

This forces Spotlight to download a new image set and usually breaks the loop.
