Hi jess ward,
Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.
The behavior you're encountering is usually related to how CD‑burning tools work in Windows 11, not a hardware failure.
Please confirm if the CD‑burning service is running
- Press Win + R, type
services.msc - Find IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service
- Set Startup type to Manual
- If it’s not running, click Start, then close and reboot
In Windows 11, the newer Media Player app does not support burning audio CDs. Audio CD burning is available only in Windows Media Player Legacy.
- Open Start, type Windows Media Player Legacy, and launch it
- Insert a blank CD‑R
- Select the Burn tab > choose Audio CD > add your MP3 files > Start burn
If Media Player Legacy is missing
- Go to Settings > Apps > Optional features
- Select Add a feature and install Windows Media Player
- Restart the PC, then open Windows Media Player Legacy
