How to correct my device location

My default location in Virginia is correct, but my Devices and Find my device shows an incorrect location in Maryland. This issue seems to affect my Google maps location as well. I did visit the incorrect location via my computer two years ago. But I have not visited that area since then. My private IP shows the correct location. And my Samsung TV shows ads from the Maryland location.

Frustrating problem!

It appears that the location problem originated with Google Maps. Actually, I was using Google maps to find a doctor in Baltimore MD. At some point I believe that Google asked for my location. It took me some doing but I spotted in Google files that they had my street address correct mut not my town and state. So, I must have incorrectly entered my street correctly but not the town. I suspect that not too many people make that mistake. Anyway, for the last three days I am getting Google maps to open with my correct location. Even my Samsung TV now shows ads for Virginia businesses!

So, I would say that the issue has been corrected.

    Thanks for your help!

Unfortunately, I could not find a Clear location history option. There is a Recent activity list but no way was provided to clear it. There also is an Allow location override option which I have turned off.

To correct your device's location, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check Location Settings: Ensure that location services are enabled on your device. Go to your device's settings and check the location privacy settings. Make sure that location services are turned on and that your device is allowed to access location data.
    2. Update Location Privacy Settings: If your app or device is not able to access the correct location, you may need to provide a link to the location privacy settings in your app or navigate there manually. You can also use the ms-settings:privacy-location URI to access these settings directly if you are developing an app.
    3. Test Location Redirection: If you are using a remote desktop or virtual desktop environment, ensure that location redirection is configured correctly. You can test this by connecting to a remote session and checking if the location information is accurate. Use a web browser to visit a site that uses location data, like Bing Maps, to verify your location.
    4. Device Reboot: Sometimes, simply rebooting your device can help refresh the location data.
    5. Clear Cache and Data: If the issue persists, consider clearing the cache and data of the apps that are showing incorrect location information, such as Google Maps.
    6. Check for Updates: Ensure that your device's operating system and apps are up to date, as updates can fix bugs related to location services.

If the problem continues after these steps, you may want to consult your device's support resources for further assistance.
