Dear @Young, Courtney,
Good day. Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!
First of all, I want to begin by sincerely apologizing for the frustration and inconvenience this issue has caused you.
To better understand your issue, could you please provide me with the following information?
- What version of Office are you using? About Office: What version of Office am I using? - Microsoft Support
- Was the file saved in OneDrive / SharePoint, or locally on your PC?
- Were you using PowerPoint Desktop or web?
- Have you enabled AutoSave?
- I understand that you mentioned you have already tried the steps suggested by the AI assistant, but they did not resolve the issue. Could you please confirm which specific step did not work for you?
- If possible, please take a screenshot of the issue you're experiencing so I can better assist you.
I see that the steps suggested by the QA assistant are quite reasonable. However, I will provide more detailed and step‑by‑step guidance. If you encounter any issues or get stuck at a specific step, please reply below and let me know:
Step 1: Check Version History
If the file was saved in OneDrive or SharePoint, the version you need is very likely still there.
- Go to File > Info > Version History
- Look for a version dated yesterday (1 day ago)
- You can:
- Open that version to review it
- Next, restore it or save a copy so you don’t overwrite anything
Note: Version History keeps multiple autosaved snapshots, especially when AutoSave was ON.
Step 2: Check OneDrive/SharePoint directly
- Go to OneDrive or the SharePoint document library
- Locate the PPT file
- Right‑click the file > Version history
- Look for:
- A version from yesterday
- Versions saved yesterday or after long editing sessions
Step 3: Recover an unsaved/autosaved local copy
If PowerPoint crashed, closed unexpectedly, or sync failed:
- Open PowerPoint
- Go to File > Open > Recover Unsaved Presentations
- Check if there’s a file with:
- A recent timestamp
- A name like AutoRecovery or similar
For your reference, please refer to: Recover your PowerPoint files
Kindly let me know your responses to the above questions, and feel free to share any other details you think might help us resolve the issue. I look forward to your reply and am here to assist further. Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.
Thank you for your valuable time and cooperation.
