Laptop restarts instead of sleeping or shutting down

My Lenovo P72 laptop has been having a problem recently where whenever I manually click for the computer to shut down or sleep, it does so for less than a second, then restarts. This also happens when I close my screen. The only way that I have been turning it off has been holding down the power button for like 10 seconds, and it doesn’t try to restart. I don’t remember changing any settings or doing anything different than simply updating whenever it says an update is necessary. When this problem initially started, it seemed my laptop initially entered the bios menu during startup, but I closed it and since then have been having this issue. Any help would be appreciated!

This is probably due to a January 26 Windows update - KB5073455. The article below has more information and a work around. MS has not offered a fix yet.

    1

Open the old Control Panel (not the settings app)

At the top of the old Control Panel, set view to icons

    Open Power Options

On the left, click 'Choose what the power buttons do'

At the top right, click 'Change settings that are currently unavailable'

Under 'Shutdown settings' disable 'Turn on fast startup'

Save that and close Control Panel

When that process completes, restart (Not shut down) your laptop and then test if you can shut your laptop down.

If not, go to the support page for your laptop on the Lenovo website to check for any BIOS update that may be available and not yet installed.
