Pivot Data Model – Value Field Settings rename/number format ignored after update

Build: Excel Version 2601 (Build 19628.x)

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create Data Model with Power Pivot measures
  2. Drag measure into PivotTable from Data Model
  3. Right-click value → Value Field Settings
  4. Change Name & Number Format → OK

Observed: Name/Format not applied

Expected: Renamed value & number format should apply

Additional Details:

– Pivot standard (non-Data Model) accepts rename/format

– After rollback to older build & clearing cache, layout still misbehaves

– Show Values As doesn’t fix formatting

Please fix or advise if release with fix is pending.

    Dear @Arya Pradita Aji,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Thank you for taking the time to describe the scenario in detail and for sharing the exact Excel version and build you’re using. Based on your description, I understand that you’re working with Excel for Windows (Microsoft 365 Apps), Version 2601 (Build 19628.x), and that the PivotTable is built on the Data Model using a Power Pivot measure. The measure itself calculates correctly, but changes made in Value Field Settings are not reflected in the PivotTable.

I’ve tested this on my side with the same type of setup and was able to reproduce the same behavior. This appears to be limited to PivotTables that use the Data Model; standard PivotTables (not based on the Data Model) still apply name and number format changes as expected. From what I can see, this is related to how Excel currently prioritizes measure metadata coming from the Data Model, and the override from the PivotTable UI (Value Field Settings) is not being applied reliably in this build.

As a practical workaround, you may want to consider setting the measure name and number format directly at the Power Pivot (model) level, since PivotTables based on the Data Model tend to follow those definitions more consistently. Beyond that, this looks like product‑level behavior, so the best next step would be to submit feedback directly from Excel > Help > Feedback or open a Microsoft support ticket if this is impacting a business workflow, so the Excel team can track it properly.

I hope the information above helps clarify what’s happening. I’ll continue to keep an eye on this issue, and if you have any further questions or notice new behavior, please feel free to reach out.

Looking forward to hearing back from you with any updates or additional details.

    Warm regards,
