My contacts have changed to read only and the addresses have disappeared. How to fix this problem?

    Hi Susan Stone

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum

Since you mentioned above the issue exists in Outlook on the Web (OWA) as well, based on my research, this indicates the issue is likely on the server side or related to how the account is syncing, rather than a corruption of the Outlook for Mac application itself.

If you recently switched to the New Outlook for Mac, you could try to switch back to the Legacy view temporarily and do the addresses reappear?

Additionally, to better understand your situation, could you please share some information:

    • Is this a Microsoft 365 Business account, Outlook.com (Personal), or an IMAP account?
    • Do you receive any specific error when trying to save a change to a contact? If yes, please reply to my private message to share.
    • What version of Outlook for Mac are you using? (Click Outlook > About Outlook).

I look forward to your response.
