Hey, I have the same problem with this too. I’ve tried everything, but it still doesn’t work. There hasn’t been any update to fix this issue. I already have all the latest drivers and Windows updates. Does anyone know if a fix will be released soon?
How to fix discord breaking my task manager??
Hey, i have an issue which breaks my whole laptop when i installed 25H2.
When i open discord up (while no application is opened, i think), task manager breaks, leading to infinite shutdown, infinite restarting, and i can't download updates in that state aswell! (OH ALSO, i can't relaunch roblox, and play steam games in that state XD)
(FYI when i turn it off through the physical button, everything fixes, until i open discord again.)
Can somebody help me, and tell me what's the issue at least?? I've searched around the internet, and didn't see any info. (also, i did reinstall my windows , and it fixed, until i installed 25H2 again.)
if you actually help me, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
(also, it might be not just because of discord, i think steam broke it a few times aswell, BUT IM NOT SURE!)
now some things that i know:
- it fixes ONLY when i restart through the physical button on my laptop, and breaks again after i open discord, or close the other apps except discord
- if i open discord while a game is already opened (or any app im unsure), it doesn't break
- its not the task manager duplication glitch.
- no updates are fixing this yet..
- by "infinite shutdown, infinite restarting" i mean is that when i shutdown, or restart my laptop through the start menu, it goes on forever, until i just turn it off through the physical button.

Do you have the latest driver installed for your graphics card?
The issue could be related to the video driver being blocked and hardware acceleration in Discord.
I can suggest disabling hardware acceleration in Discord:
Open Discord > go to the lower left corner and click on the "settings gear" > look for "Advanced" > uncheck the option "Hardware Acceleration".
Then restart Discord.
Let me know if the shared information has been helpful. Regards.

Q&A Assist2026-02-11T17:39:48.8233333+00:00 AI generated content. This question contains an answer created with AI from Q&A Assist. Learn moreIt seems that you are experiencing issues with Task Manager after installing Windows 11 version 25H2, particularly when using applications like Discord and Steam. According to the information available, there is a known issue where closing Task Manager using the Close (X) button does not fully terminate the process, leading to multiple instances running in the background. This can consume system resources and potentially cause performance issues, including the infinite shutdown and restarting problems you described.
To address this issue, it is recommended to:
- Install the latest updates for your device, as they may contain important improvements and resolutions for known issues. The specific resolution for the Task Manager issue was included in the November Windows security update (KB5068861).
- As a temporary workaround, instead of closing Task Manager with the 'X' button, you can use the "End Task" option from the Processes tab to ensure it closes properly. Alternatively, you can use the command line to terminate all instances of Task Manager by running
taskkill.exe /im taskmgr.exe /fin Command Prompt.
If the problem persists after these steps, consider reaching out to Microsoft support for further assistance, as it may be related to the specific applications you are using or other system configurations.
