If I use the icon that I think might be related to the New Outlook, I am directed to a page to open a new account. But I already have an account.

We use OneDrive and most personal files are synced. If I c

    Dear Michael

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand Classic Outlook for Windows is no longer launching (you use Calendar only, PST is present, and clicking the classic Outlook icon does nothing). I am happy to assist you. Please follow these steps:

    • Check Microsoft’s confirmed Classic Outlook known issues for February 2026 and apply any listed workaround that matches “Outlook won’t open” or startup symptoms. Use Fixes or workarounds for recent issues in classic Outlook for Windows - Microsoft Support (Last updated February 2026).
    • Create a new Outlook profile. Creating a new Outlook profile via the profile picker (Hold Shift while starting Outlook, or run Outlook.exe /profiles). This rebuilds the Outlook configuration that can prevent Outlook from launching while leaving your PST untouched.
    • If you suspect a broader configuration problem, use Microsoft’s Classic Outlook troubleshooting library to target the symptom category via Classic Outlook for Windows troubleshooting - Outlook | Microsoft Learn
    • Please contact Microsoft Support if all fail
      • Visit Contact - Microsoft Support
      • Type a brief description of your issue in the search box
      • Scroll down to the bottom > select Sign in to contact support
      • Log in to your personal Microsoft account.
      • Under Products & Services, select "Other Products"; Under Categories, select a suitable Category.
      • Click "Chat with a support agent in your web browser" (during business hours)

To troubleshoot the issue with your Outlook Classic/desktop calendar not starting, you can follow these steps:

    1. Close Outlook Completely: Ensure that Outlook is not running in the background. Open Task Manager and end any Outlook.exe processes.
    2. Check Your PST File: Since you mentioned that the MyOutlook.pst file is in its usual place, ensure that it is not corrupted. You can use the Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe) to check and repair the PST file if needed.
    3. Create a New Outlook Profile: Sometimes, creating a new profile can resolve issues. Go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles, and create a new profile. Set it up with your existing PST file.
    4. Reboot Your Computer: After making changes, restart your computer to ensure all settings take effect.
    5. Run Outlook in Safe Mode: You can try starting Outlook in Safe Mode by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking the Outlook icon. This can help identify if add-ins are causing the issue.
    6. Check for Updates: Ensure that your Outlook application is up to date. Sometimes, updates can fix bugs that prevent the application from starting.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider reinstalling Outlook or seeking further assistance from Microsoft support.
