Setting up SharePoint with five users using a domain hosted by GoDaddy is a supported and common configuration, provided the domain is correctly connected to Microsoft 365.
If your domain is hosted with GoDaddy, you can add and verify it in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Microsoft supports automatic domain setup with GoDaddy using Domain Connect, which allows Microsoft 365 to create and manage the required DNS records on your behalf (such as TXT and CNAME records) once you authorize the connection. After the domain is verified:
- User accounts can be created using your custom domain (for example,
******@yourdomain.com)
- Licenses can be assigned to each user
- SharePoint Online becomes available for collaboration among those licensed users
However, it’s important to note that SharePoint Online site URLs always use the tenant’s *.sharepoint.com domain. Even when you add a custom domain from GoDaddy, the SharePoint site address itself cannot be fully replaced with yourdomain.com.
However, Microsoft does allow:
- Renaming the SharePoint tenant URL (for example, from
oldname.sharepoint.com to newname.sharepoint.com)
- Using your custom domain for user sign‑ins and email addresses
If SharePoint is already provisioned but you’re validating the configuration, make sure that:
- Each of the five users has a Microsoft 365 license that includes SharePoint Online
- The GoDaddy domain shows as Verified in the Microsoft 365 admin center
- DNS records required by Microsoft 365 are present and healthy.
