    unable to enter text into the new email text area.

    It's hard to be sure, because you are using Dark Mode, but it's possible that your Format Defaults for New Mail have been hoarked.

    Please check by doing:

    View -> View Settings -> Mail -> Compose and reply
    Message format
    {Use the account drop-down at the top of the page to check each account}

    Do you see something different than these Default settings?

    Dear Kevin Burke

    Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. To better understand what’s happening, could you please share a screenshot of the area where you’re unable to type in the body of a new email in the New Outlook for Windows 11? This will help I see exactly what you’re seeing and guide you more accurately.

    In the meantime, please try the following steps:

    • Force-close New Outlook, then reopen
      • Right-click Start > Task Manager > select Microsoft Outlook > End task > reopen new Outlook.
    • Uninstall and reinstall “new Outlook for Windows” (clean app state)
      • Uninstall : Start menu > find “new Outlook for Windows” > expand options > Uninstall.
      • Reinstall : open classic Outlook for Windows and use the “Try the new Outlook” toggle to download/switch back to new Outlook.
    • Use a supported alternate client path for composing new messages : Use classic Outlook . If you want to validate whether this is only the New Outlook app editor surface (not your account), also test composing in Outlook on the web.
    • Ensure you are on the latest New Outlook servicing level
