Hi Ryan Hadley,
Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.
The network name starting with DIRECT‑ (for example, DIRECT‑NSLAPTOP‑…) is a temporary wireless signal created by Windows for screen projection (Miracast).
It is not a regular Wi‑Fi network, and there is no password you can view or type in. Because of that, trying to connect from your phone’s Wi‑Fi settings will always ask for a password that doesn’t exist.
Please connect using your phone’s screen casting feature, not Wi‑Fi:
1 - On your Windows 11 laptop
- Open Settings > System > Projecting to this PC
- Set Available everywhere
- Keep this screen open
2 - On your phone
- Open Cast / Screen Cast / Smart View (name varies by phone)
- Select your laptop name
- Look at the laptop screen and accept the connection or enter the PIN shown
Some helpful tips to keep in mind:
- Turn Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth ON for both devices.
- Being on the same Wi‑Fi network may help in connection, do not connect to the
DIRECT‑network from Wi‑Fi settings.
