Hi Cali Holley,
Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand how stressful it can be to reach a BitLocker recovery screen and not immediately see where the key is stored. Please check the following locations for your BitLocker recovery key:
1 - Microsoft account
- On another device, open Microsoft Recovery key
- Sign in using the same Microsoft account used on the affected PC
- Look for a 48‑digit key and match the Key ID shown on the BitLocker screen
2 - Work or school account (if ever used on this PC)
- Go to Microsoft Account
- Sign in with your work or school account
- Check under Devices for BitLocker recovery keys
Please check any USB drives, printed documents, or secure notes where the key may have been saved when BitLocker was first enabled.
If the recovery key isn’t found in any of these locations, Windows won’t be able to unlock the encrypted data. In that situation, you can still regain access to the device by resetting Windows, which removes the existing data on the drive.
I hope this helps clarify where to look and supports you through the next steps. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.
