Trying to upgrade to Entra ID PD1

Hello,

I have been trying to upgrade to Entra ID PD1 from my Azure account, by navigating to the Entra ID portal. From the Microsoft Entra admin center, I can navigate to an "Activate - Browse available plans and features" screen, which includes a few options, such as "Microsoft Entra Suite", "Microsoft Entra ID Governance", and others.

However, when I actually click "Activate" on any plan, I am navigated to a screen titled: "Microsoft Entra Suite - Trial One month free with payment details". This flow prompts me to enter my email. However, whenever I enter my primary email, which I use within my Azure account, the flow does not recognize my account and responds "Looks like you need to create a new account. Let's get you started! Continue as [my existing Azure account email]." As a result, if I progress with this, a new account is created and the Entra ID license cannot be applied to my Azure portal, which is where I need it.

Would it be possible to help indicate how one upgrades to Entra ID PD1 from within the Azure portal, so I can be sure that the upgrade is applied to my Azure account?

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Thomas

    Hello Thomas,

As discussed offline, you need to follow the below steps:

    • Create a cloud-only user in your Microsoft Entra ID (Free) tenant and assign the Global Administrator role to that user.
    • Then sign out and sign back in using this new cloud-only Global Administrator account (preferably in an InPrivate/Incognito browser session).
    • After signing in, visit this link and click on Try for Free option under Microsoft Entra ID P1 license. https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/security/business/microsoft-entra-pricing

This will ensure the trial is activated on your existing tenant and not on a newly created account.

Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out for further queries.
