Unable to download WhatsApp from Microsoft Store "not available in your region"

Question

I'm unable to download WhatsApp from the Microsoft Store. I travel for work and will be overseas for the next month. I use Proton VPN to connect to a US VPN while i'm traveling... but the Microsoft Store still says "Not available in your region"

How can I get around this so I can download what I need? Why isn't browsing from a US VPN sufficient?

Open Microsoft Edge

Please try to visit https://store.rg-adguard.net/

In the drop-down list menu on the right side, select Retail

Search for:

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nksqgp7f2nh?hl=en-US&gl=US

Click the check mark
