I just bought a new laptop and I set it up, everything was working normally until I tried to open the microsoft store and it said it couldnt initialise, tried restarting but the same issue persisted and it also didnt show up in the installed apps section in the settings. Then I tried every single method listed on the internet, I used the wsreset.exe, I rechecked my time and region, reinstalled via powershell, restarted microsoft store installer from services.msc, updated windows then as a last resort I reinstalled windows from the settings and it's still not working. I dont know what else to do. Is the microsoft store really that necessary if I can just download apps and games with the dedicated installers or the Xbox app?

    Hi @Arjun Gaikwad,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for reaching out regarding the initialization error with the Microsoft Store on your new device. It is certainly frustrating to encounter such a persistent issue immediately after setup, especially after performing a full Windows reset.

1/ To answer your question: the Microsoft Store is not strictly mandatory for a functional PC. Most applications and games can be installed using standalone installers or the Xbox app. However, the Store is the primary delivery vehicle for system component updates (like the Photos app, Notepad, and Calculator) and manages licenses for many Game Pass titles. If the Store is non-functional, you may eventually encounter issues with these native services.

2/ Since standard resets and PowerShell commands have failed, please try the following:

    1. In-Place upgrade: Instead of a local reset, download the Windows 11 Installation Media tool from the official Microsoft website. Run the tool and select Upgrade this PC now. This overwrites corrupted system files with a fresh image while preserving your data.
    2. Winget force install: Open PowerShell as Administrator and run the command: winget install 9WZDNCRFJBMP. This utilizes the Windows Package Manager to pull the Store package directly from the server.

3/ As a final check, please ensure your BIOS and firmware are fully updated via the manufacturer’s support application (e.g., Lenovo Vantage or MyASUS). On rare occasions, outdated motherboard firmware or network filter drivers can interfere with secure handshakes required for Store initialization.

If these steps do not resolve the matter, I recommend contacting the retailer for further check at hardware level.

I hope this helps resolve the issue.
