SO with sharepoint - when news posts are too old to be shown on the home page I am under the impression that they get moved to an unsearchable folder so how do we make these posts findable?

To locate older news posts in SharePoint that are no longer displayed on the home page, you can ensure that the content is searchable. Here are some steps to make these posts findable:

    1. Enable Content Searchability: Make sure that the news posts are set to be searchable. You can enable content on a site to be searchable by adjusting the settings in SharePoint.
    2. Use Search Features: Utilize the search functionality in SharePoint to look for older news posts. You can search by keywords or phrases that were included in the news posts.
    3. Check Site Collection Settings: Ensure that the search settings for the site collection or specific sites are configured correctly to include older news posts in search results.
    4. Review Search Index: If the older posts are not appearing in search results, check if they have been crawled and indexed properly. You can verify this through the search logs and reports available in SharePoint.

By following these steps, you should be able to locate older news posts that are not visible on the home page.
