Text box outline in Word for Mac

Recently, when creating a text box in Word for Mac I cannot make visible the outline. When I "draw a text box," no box is drawn. What is wrong?

    First of all, restart the Mac. That often resolves a variety of UI issues as well as others.

    Before attempting to troubleshoot anything, confirm that both macOS & Office are fully updated. It's fruitless to troubleshoot if the system isn't current. Include the present Version Numbers of both in your reply here in order to confirm.
