Hi Tom, yes, I'd appreciate it if you could share the Minidump files of your PC so I can point out the main issue on your device.

Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

Just to confirm, can you still use the affected device? if so, I need to analyze the error. Can you please check if you have Minidump files on the PC so I can further examine the root cause of the issue?

Press Windows key + E (To open File Explorer)

Click "This PC" > then follow the file path:

    C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy the Minidump files and save them to another location, like the Desktop or Documents.

Then please upload it to Cloud storage like OneDrive or any cloud storage you are using, and please share the shareable link here.

To upload and share the link using OneDrive:

Go to this link: https://onedrive.live.com/, then upload the file

Then, provide the shareable link by following the steps from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/share-onedrive-files-and-folders-9fcc2f7d-de0c-4cec-93b0-a82024800c07

    Hi @Tom Edwards,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

As you described, it is normal to see the cursor moving on the blue screen because the basic input drivers for your mouse often remain active even when a critical system process has failed.

This error can happen for various causes, which is why I would like to troubleshoot the system to identify the specific trigger. You should try the troubleshooting steps below before seeking professional service:

    1. Run system repair tools.
    • Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
      • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
      • After that is complete, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter.
    1. Update your hardware drivers.
      • Use the HP Support Assistant or Device Manager to check for updates, specifically for your chipset and disk drives, to ensure they are compatible with Windows 11.
    2. Check your drive for errors.
      • Open Command Prompt as an administrator, type chkdsk C: /f /r and press Enter.
      • Then type Y to schedule the scan, then restart your laptop to allow the process to run.

Kindly update the outcome of these steps to let me further check if the problem persists.

When your laptop displays a blue screen with the stop code for "Critical Process Died," it typically indicates that a critical system process has failed during boot. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Boot Diagnostics: If you have access to Boot Diagnostics, check the screenshot of the VM or system to confirm the error.
    2. Recovery Options: You can try to attach the OS disk to a recovery VM or use a recovery drive to boot into a recovery environment. This will allow you to access recovery tools.
    3. Check for Dump Files: If you can access the recovery environment, locate the Memory.dmp file in the Windows folder of the OS disk. This file can be submitted to support for further analysis.
    4. Enable Dump Log and Serial Console: If the issue persists, you may want to enable the dump log and the serial console to gather more information about the crash.
    5. Update Drivers: Ensure that all your drivers are up to date, as outdated or incompatible drivers can often cause system crashes.
    6. Hardware Diagnostics: Run hardware diagnostics provided by your laptop manufacturer to check for any hardware issues.
    7. Check System Logs: Use the Event Viewer to check for any critical errors or warnings that occurred around the time of the crash.

Regarding your question about the cursor moving around the screen, this can be normal if the system is still responsive before the crash occurs. However, if the system is frequently crashing, it may indicate an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be advisable to consult a professional service for further diagnosis and repair.
