my h, y, u, j, n, m, 6, and 7 keys randomly stop working during the day and they sometimes take up to 30 minutes of me typing UUUUU YYYYY HHHHH JJJ NNNN MMMM just to get the word "my".

it's been happening for about a week and it's random. sometimes they work like all the others. other times, they just don't work. i'm in school so writing essays has become increasingly difficult and i have to have the teacher stop so i can type "YYY UUUU HHH JJJJ NNNN MMMM" over and over until they keyboard decides to work. it just does it whenever. even writing this was difficult because the keys just did not work. i clean them out, i've restarted my keyboard, i've restarted my laptop, i've updated it, i've done everything i can find to help and it just will not work. it's very frustrating and i would love an answer.

Open Command Prompt, then paste in this command and press Enter:

msdt.exe -id KeyboardDiagnostic

Run that Keyboard Troubleshooter to see if that can solve the problem.

If that does not resolve this for you

Open Device Manager

Expand the Keyboards section

Right click your keyboard and choose 'Uninstall'

Then restart your PC

If the problem is still not resolved:

Bring up the on-screen keyboard, are those keys working correctly on that keyboard?

Connect another external keyboard to your system, are those keys working correctly on that keyboard?

how do i open the command prompt? sorry i'm just unfamiliar with everything on my laptop.

Also, I should mention I have two dogs at home who shed a lot and I find a lot of dog hair in my keys, but there's dog hair under my (for example) Aa key and it still works all the time and has never had any issues with not working ever. It's only those specific ones and they turn on and off all together completely randomly. Like it's never just my Yy key or just my Nn key, it's all of them at once at random times.

To open Command Prompt, click your Start Button, then without doing anything else, just type cmd and you will find Command Prompt on the resulting list.

good news, I found a pattern. bad news, those tips didn't work.
pattern: sometimes after closing my laptop for a while or unplugging it or plugging it back in, the keys stop working. sometimes if I don't use them for a bit like, for example, if I'm watching something on YouTube for a while and go back to typing, those keys don't work for a few minutes. It's still very frustrating though. I wish I could fix it, thank you for all the help so far though!

I think every once in a while, I just have to do that first thing, the command prompt copy past tip. That seems to work for a few days and it's easy to do. Thank you so much! You were a lot of help!
