Are there any limitations to Azure regions that allow Azure local hosted on customer site to be connected to a cloud hosted Azure subscription ?

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A

Hello AADRathodVinesh, I hope you are doing well,

Yes, there are specific limitations. While your physical hardware can be located anywhere in the world, the Azure Local control plane (registration metadata) must be connected to one of the supported regions.

According to the official requirements, you must register your Azure Local instance to one of the following Public Azure Regions: Support by regions

    East US

    West Europe

    Australia East

    Southeast Asia

    India Central

    Canada Central

    Japan East

    South Central US

Key Architectural Note: This region selection dictates where the metadata and billing information reside. It does not force your data traffic to flow through that region, nor does it restrict where you physically place your servers. You should select the supported region that is geographically closest to your physical site to minimize management latency.

You can connect customer on-premises or edge locations to an Azure subscription as long as the environment is registered in a supported Azure region. The physical on-prem location can be anywhere globally the selected Azure region simply determines where the cloud control plane and metadata are hosted.

Azure Arc–enabled servers allow you to manage Windows and Linux servers hosted outside of Azure (on-premises, edge, or other clouds) as Azure resources. Once connected, these servers can leverage Azure services such as policy, monitoring, update management, and more. Azure Arc is supported in Azure regions where the service is available. Microsoft maintains the authoritative region availability list in the Azure Products by Region documentation.

    Reference documentation:

    1. Deploy and manage Azure Arc–enabled servers https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/paths/deploy-manage-azure-arc-enabled-servers/
    2. Azure Arc–enabled servers overview https://docs.azure.cn/en-us/azure-arc/servers/overview

Azure Local – Supported Registration Regions - Azure Local registration and connection to Azure are currently supported only in the following Azure regions:

    1. East US
    2. West Europe
    3. Australia East
    4. Southeast Asia
    5. Central India
    6. Canada Central
    7. Japan East
    8. South Central US

For Azure Government, the supported region is:

    US Gov Virginia

If you are deploying in China, Microsoft documentation states that current Azure Local versions are not supported when connected to Azure public cloud regions. In that scenario, Azure Local must be deployed in disconnected mode.
