i received a share file on one of my 4 work emails, from one of my company's customers, i cannot open the share file because of the email they used was not used to create an account yet, so i tried to create a new account and received an error message (just by entering the email) that i cannot create an account with the business email, i told my boss and he did something with the business account that allowed me to attempt the process again.

This time i got all the way through the process of account creation with the above email and i even received the account confirmation number in an email, when i entered that number, it came back as Microsoft message:
Account creation has been blocked,

We have detected some unusual activity and have blocked the creation of a Microsoft account.

I need to get this done to take care of the share file from my customer.

please help

    Hello Michelle Ricketts,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

I understand that you receive “Account creation has been blocked” message error. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.

Based on your description, a customer has shared a file with you. This is a known protection block, not something you did wrong. You’re hitting two different Microsoft account systems:

    • Work or school account (Microsoft Entra ID / Microsoft 365 business) – Managed by your company’s IT/admin – Used for company email, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive for Business
    • Personal Microsoft account (MSA) – Used for Outlook.com, OneDrive (personal), Xbox, etc.

When you tried to create an account with your business email address, after your boss adjusted something, it then detected unusual or risky signup activity and automatically blocked the creation of a personal Microsoft account using that business email. Account creation and recovery blocks are automated and cannot be manually overridden by support agents for security reasons.

    I suggest you try this:

Option 1: Ask the customer to re‑share the file

Ask the customer to re‑share the file to your existing work account. This is the officially supported approach for business collaboration:

    Ask the customer to:

    • Re‑share the file using your work email
    • Ensure sharing is set to “Specific people”

You do not need to create any new account. This avoids all account‑creation and security blocks and aligns with Microsoft 365 sharing rules.

Option 2: Ask your company admin to enable B2B Guest Access

If the customer is using SharePoint or OneDrive for Business, your admin can:

    • Ensure external sharing / guest access is enabled
    • Let you access the file as a guest, without creating a new Microsoft account

This is still handled under your existing work email.

I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.

    Best Regards,
