I have worked with both my internet provider which I pay for advanced tech support and Costco tech support both tried to fix but determined I have a hard drive or software issue on my new laptop and only microsoft can fix. We have done all the "how to fix" online i.e. security settings and still does not work.

    Welcome jim martinez!

Thanks for posting your question to the Q&A forum.

I see you're having trouble with the Copilot microphone on your new HP Omni Book 5. You've tried various online guides on security settings and other troubleshooting steps, but the issue still continues. Here are a few additional steps you can try:

    1. Ensure you’ve granted microphone access in Windows Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
    2. Enable Copilot voice inside the Copilot app (for testing)
    • Open Copilot
    • Click your profile / account icon
    • Open Settings > Quick view
    • Turn on Listen for “Hey, Copilot” (or enable voice input) under Voice mode.
    • Test microphone again.
    1. Repair Copilot
    • Go to Windows settings > Apps > Installed apps > Copilot.
    • Click (...) and choose Advanced options > Scroll down and choose repair.
    • If it still not working, try again and choose Reset.

If the issue continues, please give more information so we could narrow down the cause:

    1. Have you tried using the microphone with different applications?
    2. Does it happen on web version?
    3. Do you see any error messages when you try to use the microphone?

You may also check Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application to see whether any Copilot‑related errors were recorded that could provide additional insight.

I look forward to your response so we could decide the next steps if needed.

If your microphone is not working on your new HP Omni Book 5, there are several troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Check Hardware Connections: Ensure that the microphone is properly connected if it's an external device. If it's an internal microphone, make sure that it hasn't been disabled in the settings.
    2. Verify Input Device: Go to Start > Settings > Sound and check that the correct input device is selected. Sometimes, the system may default to a different microphone.
    3. Update Drivers: Open Device Manager and check if the audio drivers are installed and functioning properly. You can try updating the audio drivers or rolling back to a previous version if the issue started after an update.
    4. Run Troubleshooter: Use the built-in troubleshooter in Windows. Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and run the Playing Audio troubleshooter to see if it identifies any issues.
    5. Check Privacy Settings: Ensure that your microphone access is enabled for apps. Go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone and make sure that apps are allowed to use the microphone.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to contact Microsoft support for further assistance, as you mentioned that both your internet provider and Costco tech support have already determined that the issue might be software-related.
