    Dear tye chadwick

Thank you for your question and for sharing the details into Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand how frustrating this is, especially when the mouse movement feels “inverted” (slow movement becomes very fast, while fast flicks become slow) across both the desktop and games. To make sure I can provide the correct recovery steps, please reply with the details below first.

    • What is the mouse brand and model (wired or wireless)?
    • Do you have any mouse software installed (for example Logitech G HUB, Razer Synapse, SteelSeries GG, Corsair iCUE, etc.)?
    • What are your current DPI and polling rate settings (e.g., 500Hz / 1000Hz)?
    • Are you using a USB hub/dock/KVM or connecting directly to the PC?
    • Does it happen with a different mouse on the same PC?

In the meantime, please try the steps below

    1. Confirm Windows mouse settings
    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse
      • Set Mouse pointer speed to a middle value (for example 10/20) and test.
    • Open Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options
      • Toggle Enhance pointer precision ON, click Apply, test.
      • Then toggle it OFF, click Apply, test again.
    1. Temporarily remove mouse software/profile effects

If you have vendor software (G HUB/Synapse/etc.):

    • Exit the app completely (also from the system tray).
    • Open Task Manager and end any related background processes.
    • Test mouse movement on the desktop again.
    • If it changes, keep the app closed for testing (or temporarily uninstall it to confirm).

Also, if your mouse has a DPI button, set a fixed DPI (for example 800 or 1600) and avoid any “DPI shift/sniper” mode while testing.

    1. Test a different USB port (and avoid hubs)
    • Plug the mouse into a different USB port, preferably a rear port on the PC (directly on the motherboard).
    • Avoid USB hubs/docks during this test.
    1. Reinstall the mouse device
    • Open Device Manager
    • Expand Mice and other pointing devices
    • Right-click your mouse > Uninstall device
    • Restart the PC (Windows will re-detect the standard driver) and test again.

While our initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

I hope the steps above help stabilize your mouse movement and restore consistent sensitivity on both the Windows desktop and in-game. Wishing you a smooth experience getting your aim and control back to normal so you can use your PC comfortably again.
